Suppose you want to write a novel, or lose/gain few pounds. The way to achieve it is to take a small step everyday, say write 10 lines or exercise. Now we all overestimate our willpower in doing so, which is why most new year resolutions fail.
Coming to the calender, each day you write few lines, or exercise ; put a big red cross over that day. Eventually, you would start getting delight in doing this and form chains in the calender.
The key here is to never break the chain.
This simple thing can be very motivating and help you through days when you don't want to continue writing/ exercising. And if you make a big chain over five year, you will be realizing your dream to be whatever you want to be. This is popularly know as 'Seinfeld Technique'.
